Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) was established by the Ministry of Transport in 1959. SMU is a multidisciplinary university
that encompasses such areas as engineering, management, economics, law, liberal arts, and science, with a special emphasis on
shipping technology, economics and management. School of Economics and Management (SEM) provides undergraduate and graduate education for a diverse population of students to prepare them for professional careers in business, government and nonprofit organizations. Having been a key player in management education in China’s shipping industry for more than 40 years, the School of Economics and Management (SEM) understands that management education is not so much about “industry specialization” per se anymore. Old in years, but young in spirit, SEM is the deliverer of courses in management, logistics theories, economics and related disciplines at Shanghai Maritime University. It emphasizes excellence in teaching and learning supported by applied, pedagogical and basic research. It plays a key role in the building of the international shipping center in Shanghai, by cultivating intellectual elite and conducting related researches.
